Mecklenburg commissioners voted unanimously to adopted a budget for fiscal 2023, which begins July 1.

It carries a 6.7% spending increase with no hike in property taxes.

Here’s a snapshot of how some of that money will be spent:

Affordable housing:

• $8.1 million in one-time funding to support the Rental Subsidy Fund.
• $778,000 for A Home For All, a county strategy to end and prevent homelessness.
• $500,000 to research the effects of corporate-owned real estate.
• $100,000 to support the preservation of Pottstown, a historically Black neighborhood in Huntersville.

Racial Disparities:

• $3 million to create opportunities for generational wealth building.
• $470,000 to support StarMed’s nonprofit The Blessing Foundation.
• $389,000 to expand food security initiatives.

Employees and Human Resources:

• $16.6 million for a 5% across-the-board salary increase for all full-time and part-time employees.
• $3.5 million to increase the county’s minimum wage to $20 per hour.
• $470,000 for new hires.
